Hahaione Valley
A peaceful and quiet valley out in Hawaii Kai, Hahaione is a family-friendly neighborhood that sits between two ridges where part of the valley overlooks Maunalua Bay from a distance. It’s divided into two communities: Upper and Lower Hahaione. The valley starts north of the marina behind Hawaii Kai Drive and from there, you’ll enter Lower Hahaione. Homes here were primarily built in the 1970s and boast of open layouts, wide streets and spacious lawns. With plenty of space and privacy, Lower Hahaione is attractive especially for families who want more breathing room for their kids to play. Many of these homes use the lawns for gardening projects and tropical landscaping.
Upper Hahaione is an in-demand neighborhood located past Hahaione Neighborhood Park. They are predominantly single-family custom homes that were built later in the 1970s and 1980s. They’re larger than the homes in Lower Hahaione and are located high on the hillside, which means you can enjoy remarkable valley, mountain and ocean views. Being situated in the valley also means more rain, cooler temperatures and flourishing greenery.
With an average of 9 days on the market, the Lower Hahaione homes have a median sales price of $1,600,000, while Upper Hahaione averages 8 days on market with a median price of $1,785,000. This is an enviable neighborhood with numerous parks, safe streets, friendly residents (majority of them are home owners, meaning you’ll have long-term neighbors) and spacious homes.
Hawaii Kai is also a convenient and fun neighborhood with a variety of shopping, dining and recreation options. Families with young keiki will be able to send their kids to Hahaione Elementary School close by. Hahaiaone Valley Neighborhood Park is a fun family destination spot with a children’s playground, tennis court, basketball court and volleyball court. Families can be seen holding picnics on the park benches.
If you drive out of the valley, you can reach shopping options like Costco and Safeway within minutes. Residents can easily swing by Koko Marina Center or Hawaii Kai Towne Center, where there’s a plethora of popular restaurants, grocery stores, fitness centers, a movie theatre and local boutiques. There are other parks close by and if you’re into hiking, there are several trails within short driving distance. And, of course, ocean enthusiasts can swing by Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach or Maunalua Bay Beach Park for watersports like surfing, boating, jet skiing, snorkeling, diving and much more.
